Mid is Meh and Other Things That Don't Make Sense

Thank you, P H, Local Guide, for your review of Salazar in Los Angeles, CA.

For those, like me, who don't understand what anyone is saying anymore, the word "mid" means something like "generally disappointing" or "average." Basically, "mid" is the new "meh," and while I wish I could appreciate it as a cool, new, all-encompassing word, I just can't get behind it.

Recently, I gave birth to a baby boy, which is kind of a big deal, right? So, back to therapy I go! And in a discussion with my therapist about the world I've chosen to raise a child in, I realized that it's not so much climate change or school shootings that worry me (though these things are extremely concerning and my therapist thinks I'm an "under-reacter"), but, in a more immediate sense, it's that my son will grow up to sound like an asshole.

I hate the way people talk these days. I literally don't understand it. I know my generation had slang that sounded stupid, but I can't think of anything we created that wasn't an actual word. Now people speak in full sentences that are truly unintelligible. Things like "no cap," or "rizz," or "that slaps." Like, WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE?! You all sound like f*cking assholes.

Aside from my feelings on this word, this is simply not enough information. Even "meh" by itself would have been more informative. I'm not a linguist, but I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that it at least sounds like the feeling it exudes. "Mid" falls flat for me.

We've been gifted a world full of beautiful adjectives; can we possibly try to use some of them once in a while?

I guess I'll go back to my cave dwelling with the other folks in my generation, but think about this for one second: These people are our future. Can you imagine in the State of the Union, the President saying something like "The economy is mid, imho, but at least egg prices slap. No cap"? Although that would be more coherent than the guy we have right now... You get the point.

One out of five stars.

See you next Tuesday.
